Both, the porcelain factory Walküre and the designer Thomas Wenk developed a new series for espresso ”rossi”. Purely by chance started the connection with the prestigious porcelain factory Walküre, which is located right the bottom of the festival hill in Bayreuth. A very intense partnership began: on the one hand, Thomas Wenk, as designer and practician and the porcelain factory Walküre, the specialist for professional specialty coffee – tableware, on the other side.
A autodidact? Does this describe him? One thing is for sure: Thomas Wenk, born in 1964, is the designer and operator of an Italian coffee bar. Besides that, he is very successful as advisor for gastronomy concepts and interior design. What induced him and how did he get the idea to develop a new series of espresso cups? The focus of his attention and leading thought to series ”rossi” was the espresso cup. For a coffee enthusiast, espresso stands in first place – especially for the Italian. The firm goal and concept was to develop a modern espresso cup, which meets the requirements of a barista. This challenging task has succeeded by ”rossi”: size, material thickness, momentum and handling – everything is just perfect.
The particular material thickness serves the purpose to accumulate the energy of the hot espresso machine and therefore to keep the espresso warm for a long time. The fine tuned rim – arose by its ingenious chamfer – is very consumer friendly and allows the coffee aroma to emerge – similar to a wine glass – in the best possible way.
Due to its thickly inside rounding, the espresso can settle down and the brought in cream can fully develop at the top. The handle and outside shape complete the modern impression. Adapted from this form, even a cappuccino- and latte cup was designed. It almost appears that this outstanding and still classical design vocabulary was always there or should have been there, because they combine perfect and as a harmonic unity.
Visitors and representatives of the trade press were enthusiastic over the sales presentation of cup series ”rossi”, held at the ”Alte Malerei” of porcelain factory Walküre. This genial espresso cup is unprecedented in the market. Dr. Wolfgang Meyer, General Manager, summarized sententiously: ”I notized, that the professional recognizes the quality and speciality of this new series at first side”. This gives pleasure after a long process of development. One thing is for sure in the Walküre Home: the new design impressed. The door is open for a new interpretation of classical coffee tableware, produced at porcelain factory Walküre in Bayreuth.
